Gergely Madaras – Conductor
Dmitry Ishkhanov – Piano
The sea is the inspiration for the closing concert of this year’s edition of the Malta International Arts Festival, featuring the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra directed by the young conductor Gergely Madaras.
Claude Debussy’s symphonic suite La Mer, which gives the concert its name, will be followed by a performance of Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Suites, extracted from his opera Peter Grimes.
Charles Camilleri often drew on the musical heritage of the Mediterranean in his works, and this is very much evident in his “Mediterranean” piano concerto. 13-year-old prodigy Dmitry Ishkhanov, a Maltese pianist of Russo-Armenian origin, will be taking on the solo role.
