This installation is a visual/sound art piece created by sound artist, composer and musician Renzo Spiteri using audio-visual material captured by the artist through a series of encounters between dancers and public spaces held across several countries.
Conceptualised and curated by Renzo, and titled Sounding Dance, these artistic encounters question the role of chance in sound and dance, the relationship between the body and space, and the atmospheres that are generated from the resultant movement work. During Sounding Dance, dancers take on the dual role of listeners and reactors to the sounds that they absorb, letting the found sounds resonate so as to let their bodies become resonating agents too. The complex, ever-changing sonic textures that surround each body become the soundtrack with which each dancer moves within his or her space.
Sounding Dance, An Installation, will premiere during the Malta International Arts Festival 2018 and will feature Sounding Dance artistic encounters held in Malta, Sweden, The Netherlands and Bulgaria. These encounters have been supported by Engage Creatives, Valletta 2018 – European Capital of Culture, Department of Dance Studies – University of Malta, Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018, Plovdiv 2019/ European capital of culture 2019
